Macaroni and Cheese: The Comfort Food

If there’s one dish that can always make us feel warm and cozy, it’s macaroni and cheese. This classic American comfort food is simple to make and always satisfying, making it a staple in many households. Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until it’s al dente, then drain it and set it aside.

In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once it’s melted, add the flour and stir constantly for about two minutes to make a roux.

Slowly add the milk to the roux, whisking constantly until it’s fully incorporated and there are no lumps.

Continue to whisk the mixture over medium heat until it starts to thicken, which should take about five minutes.

Add the shredded cheddar cheese to the saucepan and stir until it’s melted and fully combined with the milk mixture.

Salt and pepper to taste.

Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until it’s fully coated.

Transfer the macaroni and cheese to a baking dish and bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.

Once it’s done baking, remove the dish from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
